What is avocado?
The avocado (Persea gratissima, syn. Persea americana) is the fruit of a subtropical tree native to Mexico and South America. The tree is a member of the laurel family (Lauraceae) and there are approximately 500 varieties, which produce fruits ranging from small and egg-like to heavy, pear-shaped fruits.
What are the benefits of avocados for the hair and skin?
-They’re rich in vitamins with soothing and antioxidant properties.
-They're packed with oils that help moisturise, condition and add lustre.
-They contain proteins that help support stronger-looking hair.
-They also contain lecithin, a substance that acts as an emollient.
Did you know?
Much like sesame oil, avocado oil is said to help support the skin in conditions of sun exposure. It isn’t strong enough to be used as a sunscreen, but it’s recommended to help support the skin in maintaining a healthy-looking appearance and to help reduce the visible signs of premature ageing that can be associated with sun exposure. It is also thought to help improve the appearance of age spots and scars, thanks to a substance called sterolin.
